Materials Lab

The materials laboratory is used to teach engineering students about the core principles of material properties. The Materials laboratory hosts a range of equipment such as an Instron Universal testing machine capable of testing samples with loads of up to 100,000N  and an Instron tensile testing machine and video extensometer with a maximum load of 5000N for tensile and compression tests on polymer samples. The lab contains industrial furnaces for the heat treatment of carbon steels, an Indentec harness testing machine and a Brooks Charpy impact tester along with mounting and surface polishing equipment for melallography material preparation.
