Research Degree

A research degree involves the in-depth supervised study of a specific topic over a prolonged period of time and the presentation of the work in the form of a written thesis.

For students who have obtained a B.Eng (Hons) in Electronic Engineering, we offer a postgraduate research programme covering a range of subject areas such as semiconductor technology, biomedical devices, image processing, wireless communications engineering and acoustic signal processing. Our research degrees are available at both the Masters (M.Eng) and Doctorate (PhD) levels. As a department we believe strongly in collaboration with other subject areas within the college and with other colleges.
Facilities

In recent years the Department has made major investments in equipment and the laboratory facilities are considered to be state of the art in the sector. The Department of Electronic Engineering at TU Dublin - Tallaght Campus has a long history of producing excellent quality graduates in the field of Electronic Engineering. Lectures are given by experienced engineering professionals with real world skills. Our students learn to analyse and solve real world engineering problems in modern and very well equipped laboratories. The practical elements of our programmes are very important and each student will have the opportunity to work with advanced measuring and test equipment throughout their time with the Department. The Departmental facilities include:

- Modern computing laboratories
- Radio Frequency laboratory
- Computer Networking Systems laboratory
- Embedded Computer Systems laboratory
- Microelectronics Cleanroom for device fabrication
- UNIX Workstation design laboratory
- Dedicated B.Eng(HONS) Project Laboratory

An important objective of the activities in the Department is to sustain the bridge between teaching excellence and research, particularly in the application of research work. Both students and staff are encouraged to present their findings at national and international conferences.
